Artificial Intelligence is playing a crucial role in most aspects of our lives and, of course, it could not be left behind in the education system. Although AI literacy remains low in Indonesia, it is already tipped to revamp learning. How does AI help in shaping the future of education and associated opportunities? According to Microsoft, while 68% of educators have already started using AI, only 24% really know what it can and cannot do, reflecting the gap in AI knowledge within the education sector.
That is not quite right; some educators may be very afraid that AI will replace them. You can consider AI as your super assistant. There is automating activities, such as grading, which the system does to guarantee top quality learning material of all other repetitive activities that a teacher would normally do. Not only that, but with AI, there is also the possibility to give interactive quizzes without actually spending so much time making one. In that way, as a teacher, you are now free to invest in something useful, such as projects with students, answering questions, or ensuring that everyone understands the lesson.
This will also unlock a flurry of opportunities for the students. AI-powered tools could offer students personalized learning experiences, adaptability to their different learning styles, and immediate feedback. Consequently, this will ensure more engagement in classes, deeper comprehension, and better overall learning performance. So, where do we begin with actually applying AI in education?
Teachers can reskill with AI. The more teachers know about AI, the better they will use it in the classroom.
Human skills still count. AI alone cannot teach creativity, critical thinking, or functioning as part of a team. These are still core competencies students must develop.
Put AI into effective practice. Schools should find ways of including AI into their present curriculum and enhancing learning.
The future of education is all about creating a personalized and engaging learning experience for everyone. AI isn't here to replace teachers, but to work alongside them and make learning awesome for students. So, let's embrace this new technology and get ready for an exciting future of education.
